How This Is Counted
Where do these numbers come from?
From the crash calls county dispatch, the Grand Rapids police and fire departments and the Ottawa County Sheriff publish, which 616 Dispatch lists as they come in. A crash counts toward an intersection when its call is listed at that corner; 164 of the 194 crash calls in Olive Township since January 7, 2026 were. Calls listed at a block, on a freeway between exits or with no location aren't counted, and spellings of the same street are merged.
Why does the data start on January 7, 2026?
That's the oldest crash in the past year we have for Olive Township. The Ottawa County Sheriff's data covers about a year; Kent County's and Grand Rapids' calls start when 616 Dispatch began listing them, so Kent County rankings grow as the months go by.
Is this the official crash count?
No. These are dispatch calls, not police crash reports: a call can be a fender-bender, and a crash nobody called in isn't here. Michigan's official crash statistics, by intersection and with full detail, are at Michigan Traffic Crash Facts.
